Koh Yao Noi’s homestay tourism organized by the group called "Koh Yao Noi ecotourism", this group is quite famous and they received many awards, for example, 2002; the World Legacy Award from the National Geographic Magazine of the United States, 2002 - 2004: the outstanding award in tourism development and promotion from the tourism authority of thailand (TAT), 2005 - 2009: the certification of homestay standards of Thailand from the ministry of tourism and sports, and 2007: the good host and the outstanding community in tourism from the tourism authority of thailand (TAT).
“Homestay tourism in Koh Yao Noi village was founded in 1995. Initially, when more tourists came to visit Koh Yao Noi, the students also came to collect information for their thesis but chose to stay at the resort. The villagers thought that if they wanted to gather information about this island, it would be better to stay at their home. Thus, this is the beginning of the homestay’s activity. Koh Yao Noi is the first homestay tourism in the South of Thailand”.
The origin of Koh Yao Noi ecotourism group came from people in the village saw the potential of homestay tourism that might help distribute income to the community and allow the outsiders to know more about Koh Yao Noi’s community. “The tourists will gather at the multipurpose building, it’s the gathering point, information center and administration office of the community. It's located under a big santol tree that can be noticed from far away. They will briefly introduce the history and the rules of travel. Next, there will be activities on the island, for example traveling around Koh Yao Noi by car, experiencing the way of life on the island; rice farming, making fishing tools, OTOP products, tie-dyeing from natural colors, making products from coconut shells, picking coconut from the tree, taking the long-tailed boat to sightsee lives around the island such as net casting and hauling back, raising lobsters in tank. You will also see how to catch the lobster. Other activities are swimming, snorkeling, observing the ecosystem, and visiting the evening local market on Koh Yao Noi, trying local food and desserts. You will be able to learn and understand the way of life of people in Koh Yao Noi, a united and lovely community of Phang Nga bay.”
